valentino haute couture paris s/s 2012

pier paolo piccioli and maria grazia chiuri have delivered beautiful valentino collections and this year they made no exception. inspired by the 1700's and marie antoinette, the fabrics that where chosen looked like they could have been worn by marie herself. there was a definite virgin mary vintage vibe throughout the collection, with layers and layers of lace and organza, with flower prints from head to toe. unlike previous collections, valentino chose to pair the almost antique looking garments with flat shoes.

my favourite thing about this collection would have to be the embroidery in those lovely crisp jackets. although a beautiful collection to look at, it feels like we have seen all of these shapes and silhouettes many times before. maybe it is time for a change at valentino, with the rest at haute couture evolving with the times.
